A reader recently asked me about the changes I plan to make to my diet and workout once I reach my 40s and 50s.
Since I am currently in my 30s, it’s difficult to answer this question without a time machine, but it’s definitely an intriguing question.
So, let’s take a look into the future and speculate about the changes I might make to my diet and workout when I do eventually reach my 40s and 50s.
My Diet In The Future
I don’t anticipate making significant changes to my diet in the next few decades. I plan to continue:
- Eating an appropriate amount of calories to maintain healthy levels of body weight and body fat percentage.
- Including sufficient protein in my diet to maintain muscle as I age.
- Balancing my daily calories with a ratio of carbs and fats that suits my preferences and nutritional needs.
- Selecting higher quality food sources while also enjoying some occasional treats.
- Adhering to what’s PECS (preferable, enjoyable, convenient, sustainable) for me at that time.
These are all habits I already follow in my 30s, and I plan to continue them into my 40s and 50s.
My Workout In The Future
My training regimen for weight training in the future will likely include:
- Three weight training sessions per week using the 3-day upper/lower split.
- Focusing on maintaining muscle, strength, and overall health/fitness as I age.
- Using specific muscle-building or muscle-maintenance programs suited for my goals.
- Staying in moderate to higher rep ranges to minimize joint impact.
- Taking training breaks and replacing exercises as needed.
My Cardio/Activity Level In The Future
In terms of cardio and activity, I plan to:
- Engage in regular brisk walking for its proven health benefits.
My Summary For The Future
Overall, I see myself maintaining the good diet and workout habits I’ve established in my 20s and 30s as I age into my 40s, 50s, and beyond.
My Advice For Your Future
- If you’re currently in your 20s or 30s, consider making changes now to set yourself up for a healthy future.
- If you’re in your 40s or 50s and missed the opportunity to start earlier, it’s never too late to make positive changes.
- Regardless of your current age, focusing on a healthy diet and workout routine is beneficial for your overall well-being.
(By the way, I’ll try to come back and update this article in the next 10-20 years and let you know how many of my guesses turned out to be true. See you then.)
