West Yorkshire NHS is set to launch a trial for at-home testing for chronic kidney disease, made possible by a £30 million tech and AI innovation fund. The trial will involve the use of the Healthy.io early detection device, which will be sent to 30,000 high-risk patients. This innovative approach is expected to detect 1,300 extra cases of undiagnosed chronic kidney disease, potentially preventing some cases from progressing to end-stage renal disease. The use of technology aims to improve health outcomes for patients and reduce pressure on the NHS. Additionally, the trial is part of the larger Health Technology Adoption and Accelerator Fund, which aims to support faster deployment of innovations to improve patient care. Other regions, such as Norfolk and Waveney, and north east London, are also benefiting from this fund by implementing wearable technology for older patients to monitor their health signs and identify health problems earlier. The focus on adopting cutting-edge technology illustrates a commitment to providing faster and simpler care for patients and reducing unnecessary trips to the hospital.
