The Scottish government is taking a comprehensive approach with its Digital Front Door platform, offering access to both health and social care data and services.
While England is focusing on consolidating patient records through the NHS App, Scotland remains committed to its own Digital Front Door platform. This platform, set to launch by May 2025, will allow individuals to manage and engage with their health and care information online, bridging the gap between NHS and social care services.
Scotland’s vision for digital health and care reform was highlighted by Health Minister Neil Gray in June 2024, emphasizing the vital role of technology and innovation. This commitment is further exemplified in the 2024-25 Programme for Government, outlining plans for a personalized digital health and care service.
The Digital Front Door platform is a key component of Scotland’s Digital Health and Care Strategy, working in conjunction with the National Digital Platform and Integrated Social Care and Health Record. While no supplier contract has been awarded yet, the Scottish government is focused on creating a robust and inclusive digital ecosystem for its citizens.
