Stress is an inevitable part of life that can have a significant impact on your physical and mental health. When you experience stress, your heart rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure all increase. Your body releases glucose and adrenaline, causing your muscles to tense up and your senses to become heightened. This is known as the fight or flight response, designed to help you respond to dangerous situations.

However, modern stressors often do not require a physical response. Instead, stress is typically caused by mental and emotional challenges, leading to unrelenting pressure. Chronic stress can result in a range of health issues, including anxiety, depression, fatigue, digestive problems, and increased risks for heart disease and cancer.

To combat stress, there are various strategies you can implement, such as maintaining a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, and practicing mindfulness and meditation. One effective stress-coping technique is the Navy SEALs box breathing method, utilized to enhance resilience in high-pressure situations.

Box breathing involves breathing in a controlled pattern, inhaling for four seconds, holding for four seconds, exhaling for four seconds, and then holding for four seconds. This technique can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, increase mindfulness, and help regulate your heart rate, decreasing feelings of anxiety and stress. This method can be applied in various settings, making it a valuable tool for managing stress in daily life.
