The Practice of Letting Go
Many of our stresses and frustrations stem from our reluctance to release control. Think about a current source of stress or frustration – what underlying thought is fueling these negative emotions? It’s often a hidden belief that we hold onto tightly, convinced of its absolute truth.
Use prompts like “They shouldn’t…,” “If I fail, it will mean…,” or “I wish things weren’t so…” to uncover this belief. Once identified, challenge its validity. Can you imagine alternative perspectives or instances that contradict this belief?
Consider how your life would be different without this belief. Is it worth holding onto at the expense of peace of mind? Practice letting go by envisioning life without this belief whenever stress arises, and experience the peace that follows.
