The Care Quality Commission has highlighted IT connectivity issues at Solent NHS Trust as a major factor compromising patient care. An interim report by the Department of Health and Social Care revealed that significant problems with IT systems, particularly the provider portal, contributed to the CQC’s failings. The review, conducted by Dr. Penny Dash, emphasized the detrimental impact on credibility within the health and social care sectors. New IT systems introduced in recent years aimed to enhance operations and communication with providers but instead resulted in user difficulties and time loss. Urgent actions have been identified to rebuild CQC’s credibility, including an overhaul of the inspection system and rapid improvements in operational performance. The commission is actively working to address these issues and restore trust with the public and providers. In response to the report, health secretary Wes Streeting expressed concerns about the commission’s fitness for purpose and announced a targeted review of the SAF conducted by Professor Sir Mike Richards.
