A portable device is in development to allow women to track and monitor their health and hormones on the go.
This gadget aims to identify symptoms associated with common female health conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and alert women if further medical attention is necessary.
It will be smaller than an iPhone and keep track of various aspects of women’s health, from period symptoms to hormone fluctuations, mood, and sleep.
The device will also capture data on fertility-related hormones and transfer it wirelessly to an app for review by a gynecologist.
Project Details
Dr. Sadeque Reza Khan, in collaboration with viO HealthTech and Dr. Ruchi Gupta from the University of Birmingham, is leading the development of this revolutionary healthcare technology.
The project, funded by the Scottish Government, aims to address the increasing waiting times for gynecology appointments and treatment, a situation that has impacted over half a million female patients.
Path to Commercialization
The team is currently working on the project and is looking to make the device commercially available in the next two to three years.
Moreover, Heriot-Watt University is establishing a global research institute in health and care technologies to accelerate innovative work, with a focus on expertise available through its Medical Device Manufacturing Centre.
