Manchester University’s School of Medical Sciences, the largest in the UK and part of the University of Manchester, has recently announced its participation in the Better Meds Edu Programme. This initiative aims to enhance the digital readiness of its students and prepare them for the demands of modern clinical practice.
The goal of this move is to equip Manchester University’s students with the necessary knowledge and skills for electronic medicine prescribing and administration. By joining the Better Meds Edu Programme, the institution is emphasizing its commitment to preparing future healthcare professionals for the digital transformation of medicine management.
Hiten Mitha, senior lecturer and academic lead for MBChB Prescribing and medicines safety at the University of Manchester, expressed the importance of this initiative, highlighting the need for electronic prescribing and medicines management to be fully embedded into the program. This will ensure that undergraduate medical students have hands-on experience in using electronic medication management systems, preparing them for clinical practice and emphasizing patient safety in the digital healthcare environment.
The Better Meds Edu Programme provides an immersive and comprehensive educational experience in electronic medication management, preparing students for the evolving landscape of clinical practice. Through simulated scenarios and workflows, students are able to enhance their decision-making skills and develop clinical expertise.
The decision of Manchester University to adopt the Better Meds Edu Programme aligns with the global movement towards electronic healthcare management and underscores the institution’s commitment to providing its students with cutting-edge, industry-relevant education. This move also reflects the growing emphasis on digital healthcare in the region of Manchester, as highlighted by the Greater Manchester Health and Care Digital Transformation Strategy launched in November.
