A little over a year ago, Céline Dion was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disease. Now, Dion’s sister is updating fans on her health and the impact of the disease on her body.
According to Dion’s sister, Claudette, the singer has lost control over her muscles. “What breaks my heart is that she’s always been disciplined. She’s always worked hard,” Claudette told 7 Jours in French.
The Grammy-award winning artist hopes to return to performing, but for now, the future is unclear. “It’s true that in both our dreams and hers, the goal is to return to the stage,” Claudette said. “In what capacity? I don’t know.”
Last December, Dion released a video explaining her diagnosis to her fans. She spoke about her health issues and the impact on her daily life, including severe muscle spasms and difficulty walking and singing properly.
Despite the challenges, Dion remains hopeful about her health. She is focused on recuperating and is doing everything she can to recover.
Stiff Person Syndrome is a potentially disabling neurological disorder, affecting the central nervous system. It causes muscle rigidity and heightened sensitivity to stimuli, leading to severe muscle spasms.
Due to the rarity of the syndrome, diagnosis can take several years. Dion is currently living with her sister, Linda, in Las Vegas, receiving care from specialists in the condition.
