Avendelle Assisted Living is on the cusp of expanding its operations as it welcomes new franchisees into the senior living sector. The Raleigh, North Carolina-based company, initially established in 2003 by founder Esther Cromwell, did not initially plan to adopt a franchise model. However, after 12 years and 11 locations, Cromwell made the decision to switch to a franchise model due to growing interest and demand for support from others wishing to enter the industry. According to Avendelle COO Bill Bunting, the company offers proven systems, training, operational support, technology, and years of experience to assist franchisees in the opening process. The company is attracting new franchisees, with an anticipated 50 more to join by 2024. This expansion will see Avendelle grow beyond North Carolina into states like Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, and Illinois.
Bunting outlined the franchise model and the level of support provided to franchisees, which includes assistance with licensing, zoning permits, construction, and training in business operation, marketing, and day-to-day management. Avendelle’s initial franchise fee covers all of these services and the ongoing royalties support ongoing assistance. The company also noted a diverse range of franchisee candidates, including real estate investors and medical professionals looking for a secure and community-focused investment opportunity.
Avendelle’s growth is also influenced by changes in regulations, with the company instrumental in transforming how inspections work in North Carolina to support aging in place for seniors.
Looking to the future, Avendelle expects significant growth as the company has seen a surge in potential franchise partners expressing eagerness to join the business. The company has brought in additional team members and marketing support to facilitate this expansion.
