Are you aware that generative artificial intelligence technology, such as ChatGPT, consumes a significant amount of water? According to a 2023 report from the University of California, using ChatGPT to answer just 50 questions requires approximately 16 ounces of water. It’s important to consider the environmental impact of AI and other online activities.
One way to address this issue is to encourage AI providers and other online services to reuse water for cooling their data centers, rather than continually ingesting water from the environment. Additionally, the energy generated from the hot water could be used to produce electricity, reducing the overall impact of digital technology.
By raising awareness of this issue and advocating for more sustainable practices, we can make a positive impact on the environment. Share and print We Earthling posters to inspire others to take action. Together, we can work towards a more sustainable future.
