UCHealth, a nonprofit health system based in Aurora, Colorado, has commenced a major expansion project at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. The $280 million project will involve the construction of a five-story tower, a cancer center, and the expansion of key facilities including the emergency department, imaging services, and cardiac spaces.
The new patient tower will accommodate surgical intensive care, progressive care, trauma surgical units, and a radiation oncology department with a linear accelerator. Additionally, the cancer center will house gynecological oncology and medical oncology clinics, as well as an infusion center.
Other improvements include the expansion of the emergency department with 22 new patient care rooms and a new entrance, as well as the addition of a cardiac catheterization lab, structural heart lab, vascular lab, and expanded imaging services, including CT, ultrasound, and MRI services.
The project also encompasses an upgrade to parking facilities for patients and staff. The expansion project is being undertaken by a team of collaborators including The S/L/A/M Collaborative, Gallun Snow, Haselden Construction, BHA Design Inc., RMH Group, Olsson, and S.A. Miro.
The cancer center is anticipated to begin serving patients in 2024, with the new tower scheduled to open in 2026.
