Senior Planet centers are lively social spaces where older adults can explore the latest technology and connect with others. From technology classes to community events, there’s always something happening at Senior Planet. The new Miami center will be the fourth in the country, joining locations in New York City, NY; Plattsburgh (North Country), NY; and Denver, CO.
Miami’s First Technology-Themed Community Center
Spanning 4,300 square feet, the former art gallery has been transformed into a modern space with an open layout and high ceilings. The center features 72 computer screens, a central open area known as “Main Street,” and various activity rooms for different purposes, from lectures to digital art. Additional features include a lounge area with a coffee bar and an exterior covered pavilion for outdoor activities.
Design Facts
The design of the center takes inspiration from Miami Beach’s Art Deco architecture, incorporating vibrant colors and soft curves. Wid Chapman Architects, known for their innovative approach, designed the center, with MKDA as the local Miami Architect of Record and HITT Construction as the General Contractor. The building facade has also received a creative touch from the Museum of Graffiti and local muralist Rage Johnson.
