The skin microbiome is an important factor in skin health and aging, yet it has received less attention compared to the gut microbiome. As we age, changes in the skin microbiome can accelerate age-related skin changes. Understanding the interplay between microbes and the skin barrier is crucial in addressing skin aging. Research into how the gut microbiome affects the aging body and brain has seen significant progress, and similar efforts are needed to study the skin microbiome. Strategic interventions aimed at rebalancing the microbiota and skin barrier equilibrium have the potential to improve skin aging. Further studies are necessary to develop targeted strategies for successful aging.
