Tegan and Sara Quin have been creating music together since their adolescence in the ‘90s, making it no surprise that the twin sisters are embracing a more relaxed pace in their 40s. Both prolific indie-rock musicians and advocates for the LGBTQ community, now 43, Tegan and Sara remember entering this new decade during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. These events ushered in a more introspective period for the sisters. In 2022, Tegan and Sara left Warner Bros. Records, their long-time label, for the indie label Mom + Pop. Additionally, Sara became a parent at 42, a significant life change prompting her to reevaluate her work-life balance. Tegan, while not a parent, shares her sister’s sentiment about slowing down and enjoying the fruits of their labor in their 40s. Although the past few years have been busy for the Grammy-nominated duo, with the debut of their 10th studio album and other projects, they have also taken the time to look back at their career, realizing the relevance of their past work. Their Audible Originals audio-memoir, “Under My Control,” is the latest in a series of autobiographical projects for the Quin sisters, exploring their journey through the music industry. Despite the ageism in the business, Tegan and Sara have enjoyed re-releasing older songs and introducing them to new audiences. Their foundation, the Tegan and Sara Foundation, continues to be a vital part of their career journey, raising awareness and funding for causes benefiting LGBTQ+ women. As they move forward, Tegan and Sara are not slowing down but are continuing to use their platform to make a difference in the world. They are planning an acoustic tour centered on their first album, 2002’s If It Was You, while also looking forward to creating new music.
