Thank you to everyone who participated in the lively discussions in the comments section of our articles and during our Zoom meeting about Mama Day by Gloria Naylor.
Now, it’s time to choose the next two readings!
Every Tuesday, we will post a new thread on seniorplanet.org for you to comment on each part of the book. Then, in our final week of reading, we will hold a group discussion on Zoom.
But first, we have compiled a list of exciting books recommended by both our members and staff. Now it’s your turn to select the books we will read in October and November! Read about each book below and then participate in the poll at the end to let us know: Which two books should the Senior Planet Book Club read next?
The book with the most votes will be our October read, and the book with the second most votes will be our November read. Stay tuned as we reveal the results of the poll on Friday, October 4th!
We value your feedback on the book club. Share your thoughts in the comments below!
The Books:
The Pearl That Broke Its Shell by Nadia Hashimi
“In Kabul, 2007, Rahima and her sisters face challenges with their drug-addicted father and the limitations placed on them due to their gender. Their only hope lies in the tradition of bacha posh, allowing Rahima to live as a boy until she reaches marriageable age. Meanwhile, a century earlier, her great-aunt Shekiba used this same practice to navigate her own struggles.” – GoodReads.com
Erasure by Percival Everett

From Scratch by Tembi Locke
“Follow Tembi’s journey as she navigates love, loss, and healing in Sicily after the death of her husband, Saro. Through heartwarming experiences and connections, Tembi learns to move forward and find solace in unexpected places.” – GoodReads.com
