Sectra, an international medical imaging IT company, has secured a lucrative contract to provide its cloud-based enterprise imaging service to 15 NHS boards in Scotland. This partnership with NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) aims to benefit radiology teams and other healthcare professionals by offering tools to support the review and reporting of approximately five million radiology examinations annually.
The 10-year contract, signed in December 2023 with two optional extension periods, will introduce Sectra One Cloud, a fully managed software as a service (SaaS). This platform will be utilized by all of Scotland’s 14 territorial NHS boards, along with NHS Golden Jubilee, which hosts the Scottish National Radiology Reporting Service. Through this agreement, NHS organizations will have access to radiology, breast imaging, and orthopaedics modules available within the enterprise imaging service.
The implementation process will involve migrating over 55 million radiology studies to a single instance of Sectra’s enterprise imaging service. This will be managed through Sectra One Cloud, providing ongoing support and seamless upgrades for users and local business communities within each NHS board.
Additionally, the contract includes the potential to extend support to additional diagnostic services in the future and explore further technology, such as the integration of AI applications into existing radiology workflows more efficiently.
With a focus on providing a seamless experience for clinicians, the contract ensures a single log-in profile for radiologists and reporting radiographers, allowing them to work consistently with personal configurations from any location. Clinical teams will also benefit from seamless access to imaging from a single national source, regardless of which board has carried out imaging acquisition.
Jane Rendall, UK and Ireland managing director at Sectra, expressed excitement for the potential the cloud-based enterprise imaging system holds for NHS Scotland. Rendall looks forward to supporting the professionals and fostering innovation and collaboration within Scotland’s NHS radiology teams.
This recent contract with NHS Scotland comes on the heels of another agreement with Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, further solidifying Sectra’s commitment to improving patient care through advanced diagnostic imaging technology.
