Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens, Georgia
Serving patients from 17 counties in northeast Georgia, the Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Ga., is also a training site for medical students from the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership.
After undergoing renovations and expansions, the medical center has now become more efficient and visitor-friendly. The $194 million project included a one-story vertical expansion, a new six-story patient tower, and enhanced outpatient services.
Enhanced Patient Care
With the completion of the expansion and renovation project in April 2022, the medical center now boasts 128 private patient rooms, improved wayfinding, and a more effective workflow that supports a patient-focused care model.
The design emphasis on a holistic naturalistic aesthetic features a spacious internal courtyard and a welcoming “front porch” to the neighborhood. Biophilic design elements and the use of natural colors and materials create a tranquil environment for patients, caregivers, and family members.
