Imagine if I could have captured the moment and the atmosphere in that elevator.
Running late for my job at United Press International, I hurried to catch the elevator, barely noticing the slim man in the lime green suit ahead of me. I remember thinking, “Isn’t it a bit early for St. Patrick’s Day?”
Pressing the button, I didn’t turn around until a voice from the elevator intercom said, “How are you doing, David?” Without hesitation, I jokingly replied, “I told you not to call me here.” This elicited a hearty laugh from behind me, followed by a “That was a good one!”
Turning around, I realized I had just made David Bowie laugh. My jaw dropped as the elevator reached my floor and I reluctantly stepped out. He was incredibly handsome.
