Ian Hogan, CIO at Leeds and York Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, has highlighted the challenges with the NHS procurement process at Rewired 2024.
Hogan expressed that the NHS has made the procurement process overly complex during a session titled “Innovation Masterclass: Why is the NHS so difficult to sell to?” on the Innovation Stage. He emphasized the importance of offering solutions that address actual problems faced by NHS trusts.
Despite the difficulties, Hogan encouraged innovators to continue their efforts, stating “we need you.” He also called for NHS trusts to be more open and courageous in considering new solutions. Samantha Fay, CEO at SiSU Health, and Ruth Bradbury from DigitalHealth.London echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the challenges of selling to the NHS but emphasizing the crucial role innovators play in finding solutions for healthcare challenges.
