Duncan Burton has been named the new chief nursing officer for England by NHS England, bringing over 25 years of nursing experience to the role. Prior to this position, Burton served as the deputy chief nursing officer overseeing national initiatives in maternity, neonatal care, workforce policies, and children’s health.
Following the resignation of Jacqui Smith, Adam Sharples will assume the role of acting chair at Barts Health NHS Trust. Meanwhile, Ann Marr OBE has announced her retirement as chief executive of Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust after nearly 44 years of service.
In other appointments, Carmen Howey has joined Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust as group medical director, and Sir David Behan will take on the role of chair at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Additionally, Felicity Taylor-Drewe will be the new chief operating officer at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and John Goulston will become chair of Medway Foundation Trust. Professor Karen Dunderdale has taken over as group chief executive at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
Further changes include Lisa Glynn becoming acting chief operating officer at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Manjeet Shehmar being appointed as medical director at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Philippa Slinger assuming the role of chair at University Hospitals Sussex Foundation Trust.
