Mindfulness and meditation are often depicted as solitary, serene activities, but in reality, they can be practiced by anyone, anywhere. According to Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, director of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, there are 7 essential qualities for mindful living. The first is non-judgmental awareness, which involves paying attention in the present moment without preconceived judgment. The second is acceptance, the understanding that things are as they are. Patience is the third quality, demonstrating the wisdom to allow things to unfold in their own time. Non-striving, or simply being, is another key aspect, as well as practicing gratitude and letting go. And finally, maintaining a beginner’s mind, open to endless possibilities. Mindfulness and meditation are accessible to everyone and can enhance every aspect of your life. For more information, check out Jon Kabat-Zinn’s book, “Full Catastrophe Living”.
