Originally from Bangladesh, Umme Mahmud has been a Senior Planet Trainer in NYC for the past eight years. This month, we had the opportunity to chat with Umme about her passion for technology and why she loves being a trainer.
What do you enjoy most about being a Senior Planet trainer?
Senior Planet feels like a second home to me. As trainers, we assist older adults in achieving their goals through technology, and it’s incredibly fulfilling. I appreciate the culture at Senior Planet, where knowledge sharing is abundant, and no question is too small.
“Age doesn’t define us, our attitude does.”
What advice do you often share with your class participants?
I always encourage class participants to have patience and confidence in themselves. Sometimes, people feel discouraged by technology due to limited literacy or language barriers. I strive to simplify the material for easy understanding.
There is immense fulfillment in using your passion to assist others. As a technology trainer, I help individuals achieve their goals and improve their daily lives through my skills.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I have a passion for interior design. I enjoy collecting interior design magazines.
What does Aging with Attitude mean to you?
To me, Aging with Attitude emphasizes that our mindset, not our age, defines us. Embracing aging means acknowledging that there is always more to explore in the world and within ourselves.
