Men facing cancer need support, and Man Up to Cancer is there to provide it. Founded by Trevor Maxwell, a writer diagnosed with stage-IV colorectal cancer, the organization offers resources specifically designed for men dealing with cancer. The Howling Place, a private Facebook group for men facing cancer, has grown to over 2,500 members. In addition to online support, Man Up to Cancer hosts regional chapters, provides care packages during treatment, and organizes gatherings like the recent Gathering of Wolves in upstate New York. These services are provided at no cost, thanks to the support of individual donors and corporate sponsors. The event brought together 110 men from the United States, Canada, and even Belgium for a weekend of connection and storytelling. Amidst the camaraderie, men shared their cancer journeys and found solace in each other’s company. The importance of male support networks for mental health cannot be overstated, as studies show that cancer is associated with elevated anxiety levels and depression, with a high percentage of male suicide rates post-diagnosis. Man Up to Cancer offers a safe space for men to share their experiences, receive support, and build relationships with others who truly understand. Every man facing cancer deserves to feel heard, supported, and loved. Whether you are currently battling cancer, a survivor, or a caregiver, there is a place for you at Man Up to Cancer.
