The London Care Record is set to expand further in 2024
Following a successful year in 2023, with usage almost 50% higher than the previous year, the London Care Record is gearing up for further expansion in 2024. Last year, frontline health and care staff accessed the record over 17.7 million times, a substantial increase from the previous year.
New developments in 2023, including the addition of key settings such as University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, contributed to the record’s expanded usage.
Furthermore, a mobile app version of the London Care Record was launched, allowing London’s ambulance service teams to access vital patient information during emergency calls.
Notably, the inclusion of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust marked a significant milestone, as it became the first mental health trust in London to join the record, enhancing the coordination of care for patients with mental health conditions.
In addition to these advancements, a pilot program successfully connected the first care homes in the region to the record in 2023.
An independent report by Queen’s University Belfast highlighted the record’s impact, estimating a time savings value of £44.4 million for health and care professionals, underscoring its role in enabling efficient and safe care delivery.
Sally Wiltshire, senior programme manager at OneLondon, expressed gratitude to the OneLondon partnership for their contributions to another milestone year for the London Care Record, emphasizing the importance of providing essential information to frontline staff for delivering effective care.
Looking ahead to 2024, OneLondon aims to build on the success of the London Care Record, focusing on expanding connections with neighboring areas and enhancing access to the record’s comprehensive information.
