Regular Pap smears are important for anyone with a cervix to screen for cervical cancer. Despite this, only 66 percent of women 18 and older have had a Pap test in the past three years, according to the CDC.
Country singer LeAnn Rimes recently shared her health scare after an abnormal Pap smear on Instagram. Rimes had been getting regular Pap smears and colposcopies, and her latest abnormal test revealed high grade cervical dysplasia, a precancerous condition.
She underwent a procedure to remove the precancerous cells and emphasized the importance of annual screenings and early detection, as cervical cancer often doesn’t have symptoms in its early stages. Rimes also shared her experience to encourage women to prioritize their overall mental wellness and comfort by advocating for their health.
LeAnn Rimes is known for being open about her health experiences, and she hopes to inspire others to prioritize their annual health screenings for early detection. She emphasized the importance of destigmatizing discussions around women’s health and urged both women and men to prioritize their health by getting regular check-ups.
