Intelligent Ultrasound Unveils ScanNav FetalCheck: AI-Powered Gestational Age Estimation
Intelligent Ultrasound has introduced ScanNav FetalCheck, a cutting-edge scanning technology that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to estimate gestational age in prenatal care. This innovative software is designed to empower non-skilled users to obtain precise gestational age estimates with minimal training, eliminating the need for expensive ultrasound machines.
In many low- and middle-income countries, accurately determining gestational age can be a challenge due to the requirement for trained sonographers and access to specialized equipment. A reliable estimate of gestational age is essential for proper pregnancy management, enabling the assessment of fetal growth and informing treatment decisions in the event of complications.
Professor Aris Papageorghiou, a leading expert in fetal medicine at the University of Oxford, emphasized the significance of accurate gestational age estimation in prenatal care. He highlighted the lack of availability of expensive ultrasound equipment and trained staff in low-income settings, underscoring the potential of handheld ultrasound and AI technology to overcome these obstacles and improve pregnancy care for all women.
Although ScanNav FetalCheck is not yet licensed for clinical use, a prominent university in Africa has purchased four systems for a trial evaluating biomarkers and factors affecting the probability of stillbirth. Nicholas Sleep, COO of Intelligent Ultrasound, expressed confidence in the software’s ease of use and its potential to empower frontline health practitioners.
Furthermore, Intelligent Ultrasound recently entered into a research agreement with the University of Dundee to conduct proof-of-concept work for AI-based diagnostic tools for liver disease, marking a significant step in their commitment to advancing medical imaging technology.
