Every January, the tech world descends upon Las Vegas, Nevada for the Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES), touted as “the most powerful tech event in the world.”
This year, we sent Risa Page, a 66-year-old AARP Nevada volunteer and retired high school teacher, to cover the event for Senior Planet. Before exploring the exciting booths at the conference, we caught up with her to discuss the impact of volunteering.
How did you get involved with AARP?
I’ve been volunteering with AARP Nevada for over three years now. I was looking for something to do during the pandemic and discovered their need for volunteers after taking AARP’s driver safety course.
What other volunteer work do you do?
In 2014, I joined a unique organization called the Traumatic Intervention Program. We assist emergency responders and have been part of about 900 scenes over the years.
Any tips for finding a good volunteer position?
Listen to your heart and find an organization that aligns with your passion. Don’t take on too much too fast and make sure the fit feels right.
What does aging with attitude mean to you?
It takes fearlessness, planning, and consideration of your abilities. Don’t be afraid to try new things while being mindful of your limitations.
