Six years ago, I woke up with a terrible headache and a hangover. After a holiday season filled with parties, I decided to give up alcohol for the month of January as a personal reset. I didn’t know about Dry January, but I was determined to do it for myself. However, social pressure to drink made it difficult, and I faced questions and skepticism from friends and family. Despite the challenges, I stuck to my goal and found that I felt healthier and more energized without alcohol. I now participate in Dry January every year, not only for my own mental and physical health, but also to challenge the stigma and judgment associated with not drinking. It’s important for people to feel empowered to make choices about their own health without facing pressure from others.
