There are two fundamental questions every nerd should be able to answer: How many calories do I burn walking a mile? How far is it to Mordor? Today, we have the answers to both of these questions and more.

We believe that walking is an excellent form of exercise and we often recommend it to individuals starting our coaching program. Many have found success with walking, including Megan, who has made it a part of her daily routine to maintain her weight loss journey. Here’s what we’ll be covering:

Without further ado, let’s delve right in.

How Many Calories Does Walking Burn? (Calorie Calculator)

In true Nerd Fitness fashion, we have researched extensively and have even created a handy calculator for you – simply put your stats in the calculator here:

Keep in mind, the above equation provides an estimate. Every individual is unique, and this equation is merely a starting point.

If you prefer not to use our calculator, it’s been found that on average, walking a mile burns about 100 calories.

It’s important to note that while exercise is beneficial, it pales in comparison to the importance of a balanced diet when it comes to weight loss.

If you want to learn more about the benefits of walking or how to walk to Mordor, keep reading.

What Are The Benefits of Walking?

Walking is a part of our human DNA and has been pivotal in our development as the dominant species on this planet. It’s recommended by the CDC that we walk around ten thousand steps, or five miles, each day. Unfortunately, the average American walks only half of that.

Walking offers various benefits such as burning calories without exhausting you, relieving stress, improving mental health, and burning fat among others. It’s a low-impact activity and is suitable for individuals looking to lose weight, build muscle, or stay active.

How Walking Can Change Your Life

If you struggle with following a routine or have had difficulty with weight loss in the past, walking could be the perfect habit builder for you. By starting with just a five-minute walk every day, you can gradually build this into a consistent part of your routine. This habit can serve as a blueprint for accomplishing other goals as well.

How to Walk Properly

If you are just starting your walking journey, it’s important to ensure you are walking correctly, especially if you plan to increase your mileage. Starting with your feet, be sure to wear comfortable shoes and maintain proper posture.

Walking is a simple yet powerful activity that can have a significant impact on your life. Incorporating regular walks into your routine can lead to numerous physical and mental health benefits. So, lace up your shoes and start your journey to better health!
