As I’ve been preparing for this workshop, I’ve been contemplating the essential elements of a healthy, happy, and free life. It’s a significant consideration, especially for individuals in their 40s, 50s, and beyond, who may find themselves in a stage of life where they’ve prioritized raising their kids and pursuing careers, only to discover that something is missing and they are unsure of what they truly want.
Through my journey, I’ve come to realize the importance of gaining clarity on what we desire in life. This introspection is crucial as it provides the foundation for creating the life we genuinely want. Many individuals I speak with echo this sentiment, expressing uncertainty about their desires and feeling aimless, despite fulfilling external obligations. It’s a common predicament in this stage of life, and it’s essential to address.
Clarity is key because it prevents us from drifting through life without a clear purpose. It acts as a compass, guiding our decisions and actions in line with our values and aspirations. Without clarity, we risk ending up in unintended circumstances without realizing it until it’s too late. Therefore, gaining clarity is an essential step towards meaningful self-discovery and purposeful living.
The First Step: Self-Assessment
To begin the journey to clarity, a self-assessment is necessary. Acknowledging where you are and how you feel about various aspects of your life is the initial phase. Consider your current health, happiness, and freedom, and assign yourself a score from 1 to 10 in each area.
