Deputy Al Brouard, president of the Committee for Health and Social Care in Guernsey, has announced that the first phase of the island’s Electronic Patient Record (EPR) implementation has been postponed to 2025 due to patient safety concerns.
Originally scheduled to go live in October 2024, the decision to delay was made to ensure a seamless transfer of old records to the new system with thorough testing and new working practices. Brouard emphasized the importance of prioritizing patient safety during this transition period.
The Committee will continue to provide updates as the project progresses. The EPR is seen as a vital tool for the future, enabling new working practices, better data management, and increased efficiency for healthcare teams.
The suppliers for the EPR programme in Guernsey were selected in 2021, with IMS MAXIMS chosen for acute and mental health services, and Servelec for community and child health services. Meanwhile, the government in Jersey has announced funding for technology solutions aimed at improving the lives of the island’s aging population.
