Living off the grid is no easy feat, especially for a family of seven. But for Jeff, Rose, and their five daughters in northern British Columbia, Canada, it’s a reality. They live on a 40-acre plot of land, where they grow their own food, generate their own power, collect their own water, and cook with wood and charcoal stoves.
With a tight budget, they built their own four-season cabin and generate all their electricity from solar power. They also use rainwater for domestic purposes and have a backup generator for gloomy days. The family lives a self-sufficient lifestyle, using firewood for cooking and educating their daughters at home with a standard school curriculum and domestic and agricultural skills.
Despite the challenges, Jeff, Rose, and their daughters have found a way to live comfortably and sustainably off the grid. This unconventional lifestyle may seem daunting to many, but for this family, it’s a way to spend less, save more, and live gracefully.
