Fair Haven Community Health Care Center In Connecticut: First Look
Fair Haven Community Health Care (FHCHC) in Fair Haven, Conn., is set to launch a new community health center aimed at improving population health needs in the region. The new facility, expected to be completed by January 2025, will increase capacity by 40 percent and serve an additional 22,000 patient visits per year.
E4H Environments for Health Architecture is leading the project, which will be located in a prime location just over the Mill River from New Haven, serving as a gateway to Fair Haven’s new business district.
Community engagement sessions influence design
The project team incorporated feedback from bilingual community listening and engagement sessions to create an inclusive space that addresses the unmet needs of the community. The design will reflect the neighborhood’s cultural influences and will feature a recognizable peaked roofline for the main entrance, as well as space for artwork or murals.
Health center clinic features
The new facility will house 26 exam rooms and clinical spaces for medical and behavioral health care, a retail pharmacy, lab, and shared community/education space. In addition, programs for substance abuse, medication-assisted treatment, HIV/AIDS prevention, and Connecticut’s Harm Reduction program will be provided.
Addressing population health needs
The health center will include a fresh food “farmacy” and teaching kitchen, shared community rooms for job training and education, and a biophilic design approach to connect building users with nature. The project aims to serve as a hub for the community and address future healthcare needs.
