Early Life Physical Fitness Correlates with Lesser Degrees of Atherosclerosis in Later Life
Lifestyle choices related to physical fitness have a significant impact on aging and atherosclerosis development. Atherosclerosis, the buildup of fatty deposits in blood vessel walls, is a leading cause of heart attacks and strokes. Maintaining physical fitness from an early age can reduce the risk of atherosclerosis later in life by influencing factors such as inflammation, immune function, and cholesterol levels.
Research linking early physical fitness to cardiovascular health later in life reveals that men who were physically fit in their youth had a lower risk of atherosclerosis almost 40 years later. Using advanced technology like coronary CT angiography, the study found that good cardiorespiratory fitness and muscle strength in youth were associated with reduced risks of plaque formation in the coronary arteries.
