Pierre Lehu spent 40 years working closely with the iconic sex therapist and talk show host, Dr. Ruth. Known as her “minister of communications,” he was instrumental in marketing her many books and speaking tours. Dr. Ruth’s passing in July 2024 left behind a legacy of confronting stigma and helping people understand their bodies, partners, and sexuality.
Together with journalist Allison Gilbert, Lehu co-authored Dr. Ruth’s final book, “The Joy of Connections: 100 Ways to Beat Loneliness and Live a Happier and More Meaningful Life.” This book offers practical advice on overcoming loneliness without dwelling on the reasons behind it. Dr. Ruth emphasizes the importance of social connections and encourages readers to take small, actionable steps to alleviate loneliness.
Despite her background as a sex therapist, Dr. Ruth saw a connection between sexual dysfunction and loneliness, both of which come with shame and stigma. She believed that speaking openly about these issues was the key to addressing them. Her decision to take on the role of Ambassador to Loneliness in New York highlighted her dedication to helping others combat loneliness.
The book combines Dr. Ruth’s expertise as a therapist with her personal experiences of loneliness, offering wisdom and advice grounded in real gravitas. In a time where loneliness is on the rise, “The Joy of Connections” serves as a timely resource for those seeking to improve their social connections and overall well-being.
