The Welsh government’s Digital Medicines Transformation Portfolio has completed its initial yearly assessment of the progress of its ambitious digital medicines plan for the country. Launched in April 2022, the portfolio aims to revolutionize patient and healthcare professional experiences by implementing digital solutions to replace paper-based processes across NHS Wales. The recent review highlighted key milestones achieved and advancements made in the four national programs and projects at the core of the portfolio. Notable milestones include the first electronic prescription sent in November 2023 and progress in delivering electronic prescribing and medicines administration in every hospital ward in Wales. Professor Hamish Laing, senior responsible owner of the Digital Medicines Transformation Portfolio, emphasized the importance of modernizing the management of medicines to reduce errors and enhance patient care.
