Living in a Nursing Home: My Experience on Days 1 and 2
I recently spent time in a nursing home to experience life in a locked dementia unit. I presented myself as someone with mild dementia, even though I didn’t have it. The first day went smoothly, but the staff was puzzled by my vegetarian diet and soy milk preference. The night was noisy, but I managed to sleep with the help of a white noise device.
The second day started with a lot of morning activity and loud noises. I struggled with the TV remote and had some difficulty communicating my breakfast preferences. I spent the morning observing the environment and had a hard time deciding on my lunch. The day continued with various interactions with the staff and other residents.
