The Best CCRC Lite Design of 2023: Brightview Dulles Corner
The vision behind Brightview Dulles Corner was to create a community that fosters interaction between residents and the outside world. Located in the Washington, D.C. area, with proximity to public transportation and green spaces, this community has successfully achieved that mission. The project has been recognized for pushing the boundaries of what senior housing can be, with a modern, urban design that won the top spot in the Best CCRC Lite Category in the 2023 Senior Housing News Architecture and Design Awards.
The Concept
The project planners behind Brightview Dulles Corner began working on the community in 2014, aiming to expand their presence into the market of Northern Virginia. After dealing with delays related to the development of the Silver Line, the project resumed in 2017 with a vision for a more vertical and compact design, showcasing specific and memorable architecture with a small carbon footprint.
The Construction
Despite challenges during construction, including supply chain constraints due to the Covid pandemic, the community was completed on schedule in the first quarter of 2023. Creative problem solving and material substitutions allowed the project to stay on budget, resulting in a cost per square foot of $236 – quite an achievement in the D.C. real estate market.
The Completion
With 196 units and various amenities, Brightview Dulles Corner stands as a testament to fostering community and connections between residents and the surrounding area. The community has received praise for its energetic and inviting nature, and the success of this project will influence future developments for Brightview Senior Living.
