Researchers are discussing the potential use of DNA aptamers to target advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) and inhibit their interaction with the receptor for AGEs (RAGE). This interaction provokes inflammation and is characteristic of conditions such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. The study evaluates the effects of these DNA aptamers on muscle mass and strength in mice, indicating that they may be a promising therapeutic strategy for age-related decrease in skeletal muscle mass and strength.

As promising targets for therapeutic intervention, DNA aptamers have been developed to selectively bind and inhibit the toxic effects of AGEs. The study evaluated the effects of these aptamers on muscle mass and strength in mice, finding potential benefits in inhibiting the progressive decrease in grip strength and restoring muscle weight and fiber size.
