An Expert-Approved Skincare Routine for Teens and Tweens

Gen Alpha is all about skincare these days. From pricey products like Drunk Elephant and Charlotte Tilbury, to elaborate skincare routines twice a day, it seems like teens and tweens are on a skincare craze. But are all these products really necessary for kids aged 7 to 15?

Dermatologist-trained esthetician Shani Darden warns against the trend. She believes that exposure to certain products through social media can be harmful, as they may not be suitable for every skin type. Darden advises doing thorough research on brands and products before investing in them.

Shani Darden, a mom to two teens and tweens herself, suggests a simple skincare routine for kids in this age group. She recommends a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen as the essential products for their skincare. Using too many products can actually harm young skin rather than benefit it.

Darden also cautions against using active ingredients unless necessary, especially for acne. She emphasizes the importance of sunscreen for overall skin health and protection from the sun’s harmful effects, regardless of age.

When it comes to skincare, consulting with dermatologists or estheticians is crucial. They can recommend a personalized routine based on the individual’s skin type and specific needs, such as acne or dryness.

Keep it simple when it comes to skincare for young kids. Washing their face, wearing sunscreen, and finding a suitable moisturizer are the basics they need. A complicated routine isn’t necessary for teens and tweens.
