A new digital mental health referral scheme has been launched for parents in Wales, offering free support through a partnership with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB).
The perinatal team at CTMUHB is now referring patients to online self-help programs based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) through the SilverCloud digital mental health platform. This initiative aims to provide guidance and support for managing symptoms of low mood, stress, and depression.
Participants can access a variety of online self-help programs at their own pace, with progress monitored by trained supporters who offer feedback and assistance as needed. This patient-centered approach has been praised by Jade Beasant, the perinatal lead at CTMUHB.
Since the launch of the program in 2024, SilverCloud has supported thousands of individuals in Wales and is expanding to more health boards in the region. The partnership with NHS Wales aims to make mental health support more accessible to those in need.
With the demand for mental health services increasing, digital platforms like SilverCloud offer a convenient and effective way to provide support to those struggling with mental health issues. This innovative approach is supported by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE), highlighting the potential benefits of digital therapies in relieving the burden on traditional mental health services.
