I recently had a conversation with a friend who mentioned feeling stuck in a plateau with their fitness goals. It’s a common struggle we all face – the scale stops moving, progress slows down. I even wrote an article on breaking through plateaus. As I was reflecting on the past 15 years of Nerd Fitness, I came across an old video of myself from 11 years ago. It was entertaining to watch, but it also made me proud of Past Me for putting myself out there! One important rule I’ve always lived by is the “Never Two in a Row” Rule. The concept is simple – if you slip up once, that’s okay. Just make sure you don’t slip up twice in a row. This rule can prevent a small setback from turning into a larger one. It’s all about progress, not perfection. It’s important to reframe our thinking around “healthy vs unhealthy” choices. Instead of labeling foods as good or bad, think in terms of higher calorie vs lower calorie options. We are in control of our choices and can make adjustments as needed. The same principle applies to workouts. If you miss a workout, that’s okay. Just make it a priority to not miss two in a row. Consistency is key in making progress, even if it means hitting a plateau for a while. Remember, it’s all about the journey, not the destination. – Steve.
