Do you dream of being able to do pull-ups but haven’t quite gotten there yet? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with this ultimate guide to help you get your first pull-up as soon as possible! Our proven strategies have helped countless clients achieve their first pull-up, and we’re excited to share them with you.
When it comes to getting your first pull-up, there are a few key points to keep in mind. Firstly, weight plays a significant factor in how challenging it can be to do a pull-up, so focusing on your diet to manage your weight is crucial. Secondly, prioritize your “pull” exercises in your workout routine to build the necessary strength in your back muscles. And finally, remember that while we provide a progression plan, feel free to adjust it based on your own progress and comfort level.
We start the journey to your first pull-up with Level 1: Bent Over Dumbbell Rows. This exercise helps build strength in your back muscles and prepare you for more advanced movements. Start with a weight that allows you to comfortably do at least 5 reps per set, and gradually increase the weight as you get stronger. Once you can do 3 sets of 8 reps with a heavier dumbbell, you’re ready to move on to Level 2.
In Level 2, we introduce Inverted Bodyweight Rows as a precursor to pull-ups. This exercise targets the same muscle groups and helps you lift your own body weight at a different angle. Whether you have access to a gym or not, there are options for performing bodyweight rows effectively. Follow the recommended workouts and progressions until you’re ready to move on to Level 3.
Level 3 introduces Assisted Pull-Ups, where you start to work on the actual pull-up movement with the help of a chair, exercise band, or a partner. These assisted variations allow you to gradually build up the strength and technique needed to perform a full pull-up.
Remember, consistency and patience are key when working towards your first pull-up.
