Willow Valley Communities is embarking on a new memory care project inspired by the renowned Hogeweyk model in The Netherlands. Despite recent challenges, the organization has continued to plan multiple initiatives, including the Marlin and Doris Thomas Memory Center on the SouthPointe campus. The center will feature a non-institutional approach to dementia care, drawing from the Hogeweyk’s innovative design. In addition, Willow Valley is working on a 20-story independent living community in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania, known as the “Mosaic.” With a focus on growth and expansion, Willow Valley is poised for a bright future in senior living.
Memory care project takes cues from Hogeweyk
The Hogeweyk has set the standard for non-institutional memory care with its unique “dementia village” concept. Willow Valley has partnered with Nord Architects to incorporate similar elements into their design, creating a community that promotes independence and familiarity for residents. With a focus on innovation and expert consultation, the project aims to provide state-of-the-art care for individuals living with dementia. The upcoming memory care center will feature 14 households with 10 residents each, surrounded by secure grounds and inclusive amenities like a brain tech center, caregiver support resources, and an adult day center. Willow Valley is committed to shaping the future of senior living through technology, diversity, and personalized care.
