I want to speak with all of you about something that holds a special place in my heart- ART. Although I don’t often discuss it these days, art has played a significant role in my life. I used to teach encaustic art classes while working as a physician, but I eventually left the hospital to pursue a full-time career in writing and teaching. After leaving the hospital, the only art classes I taught were with Shiloh Sophia, the founder of Intentional Creativity. Now, Shiloh and I are collaborating with our partners on a new class called INSPIRED: A Trauma-Inspired Approach To Self-Healing. This course will incorporate painting and Intentional Creativity, offering valuable tools from our healing toolboxes to help you become a “health outlier” who excels in health management. Our journey begins on March 1st! REGISTER FOR INSPIRED HERE
Some of you may not know, but I used to be a prolific artist, showcasing my work in galleries worldwide. While working as an OB/GYN physician, I was constantly on call, enduring long shifts without rest. Art became my solace from the demands of my medical career. I found peace in creating art pieces using encaustic, a medium involving molten pigmented beeswax. My passion for art led me to write a comprehensive manual and teach encaustic painting workshops in Carmel. However, despite my love for art, I realized that addressing the root causes of my inner turmoil was crucial.
Despite art being a powerful tool for trauma support, I discovered that it wasn’t enough to fully heal. My personal challenges compounded as my father battled a brain tumor, my brother faced severe health issues, and I experienced medical problems and emotional distress. Through a series of life-altering events, I reached a breaking point and heard a gentle voice urging me to quit my medical career. It took time to act on this advice, but I eventually walked away from the hospital environment.
Leaving medicine allowed me to see art in a new light. While I still cherish art and create pieces with my daughter, I no longer rely on art-making to survive. I learned that addressing trauma at its core is crucial for sustainable healing. That’s why I am excited to collaborate with Shiloh Sophia and offer the INSPIRED Healing Journey. This seven-phase model integrates various healing approaches with artistic expression, providing a holistic approach to wellness. By combining the transformative power of art with trauma-informed care, we aim to support individuals on their healing journey.
We invite anyone seeking healing or interested in preventive health to join us in the INSPIRED Healing Journey. Through a blend of discussions, teachings, and art-making, we aim to empower individuals to heal and transform their trauma into beauty. While artistic talent is not required, the focus is on the healing process rather than the final product. This approach can complement other healing modalities and serve as a valuable tool in one’s wellness journey. Join us on this transformative path towards healing. REGISTER FOR INSPIRED HERE
