Whittington Health NHS Trust implements electronic prescribing solution from CLEO Systems
Whittington Health NHS Trust has introduced an electronic prescription solution (EPS) from CLEO Systems in its community heart failure team, replacing traditional paper prescriptions. The EPS rollout began in August 2024 with the aim of improving prescription management, enhancing patient experience, and supporting sustainability goals.
Joseph Grayson, pharmacy technician and pharmacy digital lead at Whittington Health, expressed optimism about the deployment and highlighted the benefits of direct electronic prescription issuance by community teams. This approach reduces the workload on GPs and streamlines the process for patients to access medication.
The implementation at Whittington Health, which serves over 500,000 residents in Islington, Haringey, and other London boroughs, is expected to bring added convenience, timeliness, and accuracy to medication management. The CLEO EPS system also includes cost centres to standardize cost code charging models across primary and secondary care settings.
Emma Dew, sales and marketing director at CLEO Systems, commended the collaboration with Whittington Health and emphasized the positive impact of reducing the burden on GPs for both healthcare providers and patients. Following the successful deployment in the community heart failure team, the trust plans to expand the EPS to other community sites.
In addition to Whittington Health, the CLEO EPS system has been implemented in various healthcare settings, including Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, showcasing its scalability and benefits across multiple organizations.
