Experiencing dizziness or lightheadedness when standing up quickly is common, but for individuals with POTS, it can lead to more severe symptoms like fainting. POTS, or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, affects millions of people in the U.S., particularly women.

POTS is a condition that causes a rapid increase in heart rate and a drop in blood pressure upon standing. This disorder can result in debilitating symptoms such as fatigue, lightheadedness, nausea, and more.

There are different subtypes of POTS, each with its own set of symptoms and challenges. Diagnosis can be tricky, but tests like standing tests and tilt table tests can help identify the condition.

Treatment for POTS varies depending on the symptoms but may include lifestyle modifications, medication, and physical therapy. Monitoring devices like blood pressure monitors or heart rate monitors can also help manage the condition.

In addition to medical treatments, self-care practices like proper sleep, breathing techniques, and support groups can improve overall well-being for individuals with POTS.
