University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) is set to revolutionize patient care with the introduction of a new electronic patient record (EPR) system.
Scheduled to go live on June 15, 2024, the Oracle Health-based EPR will replace traditional paper notes, providing a host of digital tools and technologies to enhance efficiency and streamline processes at the trust.
Following a temporary halt of the initial October 2023 roll-out, Professor Andy Hardy, chief executive of UHCW, emphasized the benefits of consolidating patient information in one accessible location. This move aims to improve patient experiences, save staff time, and facilitate better information sharing with other care providers for quicker and more effective treatment options.
By digitally capturing and instantly sharing vital patient data, the EPR will eliminate the need for redundant information entries, ultimately enhancing efficiency and standardizing records across all departments seamlessly. Furthermore, the system’s built-in automated alerts and checks will bolster patient safety and reduce the potential for human errors.
The integration of various hospital departments within UHCW through the EPR will facilitate a smoother discharge process for patients, ensuring timely availability of medications post-treatment.
