Senolytic drugs are effective in clearing senescent cells from aged tissues. These drugs either prevent senescent cells from resisting programmed cell death or enhance immune system activity to eliminate them. While most research focuses on whole-body senolytic treatments, there is potential in exploring topical senolytics, such as the use of navitoclax. In a recent study, researchers found that topical application of navitoclax reduced markers of cellular senescence in aged mice skin and improved wound healing. The treatment led to decreased expression of senescent markers and accelerated wound closure. This innovative approach shows promise in addressing skin aging and promoting tissue regeneration.
